The author of approximately 3,000 articles and reports, Jim Gogek was a print journalist for 24 years, including 14 years as an editorial writer. Many major American newspapers, including the New York Times and Washington Post, have published his opinion articles.

For nearly a decade, Jim Gogek has worked as a communications director and communications consultant. Consulting clients include the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, WHO Regional Office for Africa, Elsevier, American Society for Addiction Medicine, California Society of Addiction Medicine, County of San Diego, City of San Diego and technology companies. He has worked as Director of National Media Relations at University of California San Diego, Communications Director at Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation and Communications and Marketing Director for a health information technology company.

Jim Gogek is a fellow of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Society of Professional Journalists. He received a master's degree in Journalism from New York University and a bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of Iowa.
